Words like "SWEET and DOCILE," have me wondering if we are thinking of the same chicken breed. I have 5 Barred Rocks, 4 New Hampshire Reds, 5 Rhode Island Red hens and 2 roosters, along with a rescued Americana hen. The only evil chickens in my flock are the Barred Rock hens and 1 of the Rhode Island roosters.

If you reproduce a watering down blue to say a black bird you will get 50% blue and 50% black, blue will not breed true even if you breed blue to blue, blue x blue = 50% blue, 25% black and 25% splash.
